A Short History Of David Filo

In November of 1994 there was an estimated 170,000 users of the search engine and four years later tis was over a million per day. Many big name companies such as Microsoft Prodigy, and AOL offered to buy Yahoo! But they refused these offers. The two of them were building the system for entertainment and not for monetary gain. The staff at Stanford wasn't impressed with their efforts as the system crashed the Stanford computers with the increase in network traffic that Stanford couldn't handle. They asked the two of them to move their project off the campus and it was then that they decided to make their project an actual business.

They found Mike Moritz who was a venture capitalist and he invested one million dollars into the company. They hired some staff and Tim Koogle who became the CEO and president of the company.

Filo is one of the multi-million dollar owners of the company and he even drives his old Datsun car to the company headquarters in Santa Clara, CA. Filo gives away a lot of his money such as giving $30 million to the engineering school at Tulane University. The search engine Yahoo! remains a popular one online and has seen increased traffic recently.
